My wife and I are not people to do this, much less ask for money. We have always strived to get ahead and help those who need it. But this time it was our turn... As many already know, and for those who don't, my wife and I are awaiting the arrival of 2 twins whom we have wanted for a long time. Because we lost a baby 2 years ago and the babies are twins, my wife is classified as high risk and is seen in the clinic every 2 weeks to check on the babies and make sure everything is okay. As we feared, last Wednesday, September 6, my wife was at her routine appointment and our greatest fear came true. They discovered that our twins were suffering from Twin to twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) and it was only a matter of time before they both died. This syndrome causes babies who share the same placenta to have blood transfusions but unequally. The recipient baby is at risk of heart failure from receiving too much blood from both the placenta and the donor baby, forcing their heart to work harder, while the donor twin is at risk of blood loss. Additionally, the baby who was losing blood did not have amniotic fluid in his sac and his bladder stopped working. As an emergency, we had to pack our bags and leave on Wednesday since, due to her condition, she had to be operated on urgently that day or the next day. Only in Miami was there a doctor who could perform an operation that guaranteed 90% of the life of one baby but only 50% of the other. This special surgery involves separating the babies by cutting the veins that connect them through the placenta and seeing if they survive individually. On September 7, Dr. Quintero, with the help of God, performed the operation. Today we can thank God, the doctor, and all our family members who were praying for Kristy, that our babies are miracles of life and BOTH survived the surgery. This is where we need your help. Our medical plan did not cover any of the expenses and we had to finance the entire cost of the surgery which was $15,425. It was a big economic impact for us and it has affected us a lot. For this reason we decided to create a "Go Fund Me" for anyone who can help us with any amount. Any help counts a lot for us and the babies who are on the way. If you can't help us with money, simply sharing this post is a great help.
