As everyone knows by now, in November 2022, my best friend Katie was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer called Inflammatory Breast Cancer. Katie has undergone chemo, chest wall radiation, double mastectomy with a flat closure, and most recently, targeted brain radiation to stop the growth of tumors in her brain as it had metastasized. It has been two years of fighting, and we are so thankful for your messages of support, prayers, and donations.
Last week, Katie was admitted to the hospital with neck pain that was radiating up her skull. After an MRI, it was discovered the tumor on her cerebellum is not responding to treatment as hoped. Katie came home with a walker to help her mobility, and the next step in her treatment is whole brain radiation.
When Katie was diagnosed two years ago, her mom quit her job to move in with them to help with the kids. Being a single-income household, this cancer journey has not been easy financially on them. Whole brain radiation will require 3 weeks of Katie driving to and from Duke almost daily. This drive is an hour there and an hour back. We are asking for donations to help with her gas money, as well as childcare for the kids when mom is gone for these treatments.
Thank you, everyone, for your continued support. You have no idea how much your messages keep us going and keep us sane during this terrifying time of facing the unknown.
