Poh-Poh's Fight Against Dementia
In a few days I'll be turning 30 years young. I haven't seen my grandmother in almost 6 years and during that time she has developed severe dementia.
Today, June 16th 2017, I am blessed to have returned to Paris where i was born to see my 93 year young Grandma whom I dearly call Poh-Poh. I was elated to see my Poh-Poh in person and her beautiful face in the hospital. She is still as beautiful, strong and kind as I can remember! Due to dementia she no longer recognizes me, my Mom or any of her loved ones.
I will always remember my Grandmother as the strongest woman in the world. She was born in China, escaped to Hong Kong during the Sino-Japanese War; married a successful business man and moved to Vietnam and raised 7 brilliant children in Vietnam, including my Mom. During the Vietnam War, my Grandfather was killed, leaving my Grandma and 7 children imprisoned. My Grandma using her brass and wit; was able to escape Vietnam with four daughters to Paris, France.
If it wasn't for Grandma, my Mom wouldn't be here today, and neither would I. Seeing my Poh-Poh in the hospital and unable to carry on basic tasks such as walking, talking, and eating is just too painful. My love for her is my motivation to do everything I can to help her and others affected by Dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
Currrently my Poh-Poh is in the Hospital but in a few days she will be able to return to her home where she will require constant professional care and supervision. This type of care will not be fully covered under her healthcare and will be aroun d $3000 Euros/month. My goal is to raise as much as I can to give her the proper care that she deserves. Hopefully with the help of my friends and family we can make it happen!
I am also raising money to donate to the Alzheimer's Association to find a cure!
