Help Gary Heal and Keep Our Home

My name is Jennifer, and my husband Gary and I have been married for 35 years. Earlier this year, our lives were turned upside down.

In February, Gary began experiencing severe pain in his left arm and hand, making it nearly impossible to use. Doctors discovered that degeneration in his spine (C5, C6, and C7) was pinching a nerve. Surgery was scheduled to relieve the pain and restore the use of his hand.

But before that surgery could happen, we received unexpected news: Gary’s heart was too weak to undergo the operation. On June 16th, he underwent a double bypass surgery. What should have been a five-day recovery turned into almost a month in the hospital as his body struggled to heal.

Once Gary had finally recovered enough, he went in for his long-awaited spinal surgery on September 11th. We hoped this would give him back the use of his left hand — but instead, Gary came out of surgery with no feeling in his right hand and unable to stand or bear weight on his right leg. His right hand cannot open or close, and he has not been able to walk since.

Gary worked faithfully up until February, but since then he has been unable to return to work. I have been working nonstop to try to keep us afloat, but with medical expenses, bills, and now falling behind on our mortgage, it feels like we are drowning.

We are asking for help to:

• Catch up on our past-due mortgage and household bills

• Cover ongoing medical and rehabilitation expenses for Gary

• Relieve some of the financial burden so I can focus on caring for him at home
