Hi! My Dad, Gary Tobin, has Degenerative Disc Disease. First occurred about 20 years ago and injections took care of the pain that time.
It started up again the middle of January 2020. He has been suffering with severe pain in his shoulder, low neck, and down his left arm.
He describes the pain as "pins and needles shooting down my arm. The bone spurs pushing on my spinal cord course the pain, tingling and muscle wasting in my left arm."
This year, he has undergone three rounds of epidurals as required before surgery with no relief from pain.
Dad has decided to schedule his surgery as he can no longer withstand the pain levels. He is the hardest working man I know. Through this year he has continued to work everyday.
Surgery is scheduled for October 5th at KU Medical Center. They will go in the back side of his neck and clean up the spurs pressing on his spine at the c-7, t-1 level. They may fuse those two vertebrae as well. There are some unknowns until they get in during surgery and see exactly what's going on.
I know that this was a big decision for him as it is scary to face surgery. I also know that the cost of this surgery is a burden. I want to lessen his stress going into this surgery by raising the funds to completely cover his out-of-pocket max ($8,150) to relieve him of this burden. I know times are economically hard for many but anything helps. Your prayers are most important and if you can give or pass along this link it is forever appreciated. My Dad hates asking for help but I know this will mean the world to him for years to come.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, for praying, giving and passing this along. I will keep this page updated the closer we get.
