The Amherst High School Athletic Complex has seen it’s fair share of change in the past years. As part of the ongoing Falcon Pride Project a new artificial turf field, bleaches, and gateway have changed the landscape (for the better) that we all remember fondly. Part of that landscape included the flag poll with its adjoining Gary Packer memorial. Sadly the flag pole was relocated and the memorial never found a proper home. Now you have a chance to make its new home come true. After coordination with local Alchemy Concrete (Nelsonville) as well as school custodial staff we have begun plans to do just this. A stamped and colored concrete structure that stands 3’6” tall and 6’ wide has been designed as an aesthetic monument that will stand the test of time. The location is still being decided but will be a part of the athletic complex as it was before. The cost for this memorial has be quoted at $5000.00. It is up to those of us who remember Gary most fondly to ensure that his legacy remains apart of the Amherst community in which he was and is an indelible part of. Please donate whatever you can to make this project a success. Thank you.
