Gary Guenther-Hardrick Stroke Recovery Fund

Donation protected

As many of you may have heard, last Monday 3/11/2019, Gary Guenther had a severe stroke.  First, I want to thank you all for your outpouring of love and support as we go through his recovery period. It really means a lot to Gary, me, and the rest of his family.

Gary has already been in the ICU for a week at Stone Springs Hospital in Dulles, VA.  The neurologist is unsure how long he will be there due to all his brain injuries and his being medically unstable. Although he is fortunately able to move his arms and legs, he has lost his hearing and has double-vision on his left side.  The double-vision causes his equilibrium to be off and he struggles to balance himself while standing.  He’s also having hallucinations due to the brain injury.  The neurologist doesn’t believe that he’ll regain his vision and hearing on the one side.  Even more serious are the brain injuries he’s sustained which has affected 80% of his brain.  He has clots throughout his entire brain, like a gunshot pattern, and a clot in his heart and leg which could potentially cause another stroke.  He also has fluid and swelling in his brain causing pressure and severe pain/headaches, which they haven’t been able to control with medication.  The doctors are hoping to reduce the pressure naturally by increasing salt levels in his body.  Time will tell if this treatment will work and if not, surgery will be required.

Gary doesn’t have medical insurance to cover any of these expenses and may not be able to work for a long time or at all.  He has applied for Medicaid but it will take 30 days to process and it won’t cover all the medical and living expenses.  He will also need certain medications for the rest of his life.  The doctors plan to send him to an acute rehabilitation facility for 7-10 days once he is stabilized.  This rehab is a full-time, live-in facility which will provide rehab services for him several hours a day, six days a week.  The recovery may take a long time.
Any donation would be helpful.  The money will help with rehab, medications, housing, food, doctor appointments, and transportation. If you aren't able to donate, we understand and are grateful for your moral support and prayers. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or would like to help in another way than the GoFundMe.
