Gary Greene's Refuah Shlaymah Fund

Three weeks ago, our dear friend, Gary Greene, was on a charity bike ride in Israel to raise funds for the Tikvah program at Camp Ramah. The Tikvah program serves campers with a wide range of disabilities. It's an integral part of the Camp Ramah in New England community which is so important to Gary and his family. This is why he was riding to support it.
Unfortunately, Gary had a very serious accident at the beginning of the ride. After spinal surgery and surgery to repair a broken cheekbone, he has spent many weeks of healing and rehab in Hadassah Hospital. Although we are so grateful that Gary is expected to eventually make a full recovery, his injuries are extensive and very serious. He will still need months of extensive care and rehabilitation. We are hoping he will be coming back to the States soon. Once home, Gary will be required to continue his recovery and therapy at a specialized inpatient rehab hospital.
Gary's wife, Judy, flew to Israel and has been by his side throughout this ordeal. His sons have also gone over to help and many wonderful friends who live in Israel have provided an enormous amount of help and support for both Judy and Gary. We are so grateful to them all!
As you can imagine, even with health insurance, there are many, many expenses that insurance will not cover. And that is why we have started this GoFundMe campaign - to defray some of these costs and ease the burden on Judy and Gary. Just for starters, we estimate that the cost of safe, medically supervised air transportation home to New York will be more than $10,000. On top of that, other non-insured expenses - both anticipated and unexpected - will add up quickly.
Gary has been a congregational rabbi for more than 35 years. One of the qualities that makes him so beloved by his congregants has been his commitment to bikkur cholim, visiting the sick. Though we wouldn't have asked for him to suffer in this way, this is our opportunity to give back to him by offering him the kind of loving care that he's given to so many others over the years.
