Gary DeVore's Emergency Medical Fund

Gary, Kelli, Logan, Cole, and Ryan (Gator, too!)  have had a devastating last year that has escalated drastically in the last month. Many words come to mind when thinking about the DeVore family. Generous, fun-loving, spirited, and giving are all words that encompass every person in their family. Gary, who has always been so active in his family’s life, has recently encountered life-altering health conditions that have placed him in critical condition in Tampa General Hospital. His liver and kidneys have begun to shut down and he is fighting for his life. His doctors have been reviewing his labs and are trying to come up with the best course of action, however, they were told that he is not a candidate for a transplant. Gary has not been able to work and currently only has nine weeks left until his medical insurance runs out. Without a paycheck coming in, this amazing family of five is now relying on one income with unforeseen expenses. Kelli has been traveling back and forth between Fort Myers and Tampa to make sure that her high school sweetheart has had company and to help make decisions regarding his care. The cost of hotels, tolls, gas, and mounting medical expenses are adding up. Helping to take care of these unforeseen expenses would be one less burden on the family and would help alleviate a small portion of their stress during this delicate time.

On top of this emotionally stressful time, the DeVore family is also dealing with the disastrous effects of their roofing renovation. Last October they hired a company to replace their roof. This company took their old roof and seamless gutters off just before a storm came through and did not get it covered in time. Needless to say, they had lots of water damage coming in through ceiling fans and speakers mounted to the walls as well as the soggy wet carpet from the dripping water. They called the company who informed them that this was normal and it would dry on its own. The company came out the following day and completed the rest of the roof, but later that night as the family was in the kitchen, the entire kitchen ceiling, chandelier above the kitchen table, and a speaker came crashing down causing even more damage. They were unable to reach the roofing company for several days and when they got a hold of them, they put plastic over the hole, not assessing the damage for an entire week. The roofing company’s attempt at fixing this disaster was to paint over the watermarks and patch the hole in the ceiling but refused to do anything about the ceiling fans or speakers due to depreciation. Tiles in the kitchen had been broken and the roofing company glued them back together instead of replacing them, again due to depreciation and because they were no longer being made. The company also vacuumed the carpet and said that it did not need to be steam cleaned or replaced. To make matters worse, the roofing company installed the wrong color roofing which had been previously chosen and approved by the HOA. The DeVore family was left to hire an electrician, mold inspector, IT professional, and a/c professional to come to inspect all the damage. They were in the process of signing a contract to have this damage repaired when Gary became mysteriously ill. This whole experience has been extremely frustrating and this roofing company has not made any attempt to resolve this at all. The DeVore’s still need to have these repairs done, but at this point, Gary’s medical needs have taken priority.

Amid this crazy year, Logan is progressing through his classes at FGCU, Cole is a senior who will be heading to college in the fall, and Ryan is a sophomore in high school. They are actively playing lacrosse and working jobs. Kelli is doing her best trying to balance work, lacrosse, renovating a home, and Gary’s health all while putting her emotional needs aside. We are hopeful for Gary’s recovery, but at this point, there are still many unknown answers.  Please consider donating to this incredibly selfless family. If you are unable to donate, please share this link and say a prayer for a healthy recovery for Gary and the entire DeVore family.

*We have had the pleasure of working with Kelli and being part of the DeVore family for the last 8 years.
