Gary Davis (Gary the GOAT) Family
Donation protected
Gary Saville Davis is a man who has always been dedicated to his work, his faith, and his family. He has been married to Deana Robison Davis for 24 years, and together they have four children: Addie (22), Calder (19), Gavin (17), and Sadie (12). Gary has worked for Weber School District for the past 17 years as a Science and Engineering teacher. He has been dedicated to his faith in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints his whole life. He was an avid outdoorsman, and could often be found in the mountains, camping, rock climbing, skiing, and long-distance running. He has competed in many 100 mile races where he usually placed in the top of his age group. About two years ago, Gary's family started noticing subtle changes in him--some slurring of his speech, some trouble with keeping on top of things. One year ago, he had to leave his teaching job. Gary has dementia. He is just 46 years old. Doctors are unsure of what is the actual cause of this dementia, even after two years of multiple tests, scans, and appointments with numerous doctors and specialists. In the past year, he has lost all ability to speak and has trouble understanding simple commands. Although no longer the athlete he once was, Gary is still mobile, and often tries to "escape" wherever he is. He needs constant monitoring to ensure he doesn't wander away and get hurt. Gary will soon require specialized help in a memory care facility that will cost between $4,000-$5,000 a month. On top of that, there are medical bills, legal fees, and living expenses. There are three kids living at home, and one on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Reno, Nevada. Deana, Gary's wife must return to her full-time teaching job on August 20th, (students come back August 26th). She'll need to arrange for Gary's care before then, so funds are needed as soon as possible. Please consider giving to the Davis Family, so they can provide adequate care for Gary, and be able to keep their home and life as close to normal as possible. The Davises are incredible people who are loved by the many lives they've touched--through teaching, church service, friendship, and more. They are in need. We ask that you share Gary's story through social media, and whatever other means you can. Your support means the world to the Davises and those of us who love them. Thank you so much. From Deana Davis, Gary's wife: "Gary’s identity is that he’s a man of God, a husband, a dad, a teacher, and a runner. As he’s unable to do the things that make him “him,” I’ve just been losing him one piece at a time. I’ve been living one day at a time for the past year. He’s 100% mute. He’s just a lost soul right now. I’m not sure why we’re supposed to carry this burden. I hope it doesn’t break us. His kids (Addie, Gavin, Sadie, and Calder) are amazing. This is hard on all of us. I pray for strength and guidance as we navigate this new ever-changing normal, and thank my Heavenly Father for the knowledge that we will all be made [whole]again."
