Gary and Thelma's Financial Medical Relief Fund

Everyone that knows Gary and Thelma will tell how kind hearted and wonderful they are. They've raised 8 biological children and are currently raising their 9th child whom they adopted through the foster care program 13 years ago. They are prominent members of their community and have been highly involved in the local school and church. Gary retired 9 years ago and they have lived off Thelma's pay as a postal worker. They are not the type of people that ask for help, however they've experienced a string of bad luck recently and need a helping hand. All of their adult children are willing to help, but with families of their own, they unfortunately aren't able to provide all the assistance that is needed. Thelma is a colon cancer survivor but it left her with a colostomy and dependent on medical supplies. She never let that get in the way of living life. Then in February 2017, she broke her right femur by slipping on ice while delivering mail. She had pin placement surgery to reinforce her bone. Unfortunately, the pins were too long and she required another surgery to shorten them in January 2019. While on her way to physical therapy in February, she slipped and broke her left leg right below the knee. Thankfully, she didn't require surgery again but she did need to take 9 weeks off of work, without pay to heal and recover. In April, she began experiencing unexplained bleeding from her stoma. This resulted in multiple blood transfusions. In May, while shopping with her youngest son, she passed out due to blood loss and had to be transported by ambulance to the hospital. She stayed for 2 days but the doctors found no reason for the incident and sent her home. The bleeding continued and in June she was back in the hospital. This time the doctors found the culprit vein and cauterized it. After 2 days, all seemed well and home she went. Only 6 days later she awoke with severe hemorrhaging. This caused her to pass out and be transported by ambulance once again to the hospital. This time the doctors preformed a risky surgery to hopefully solve the problem for good. She stayed for a week in the hospital and while the surgery appears to be successful in addressing the bleeding, it has resulted in ammonia toxicity. She now needs additional life long medicine to keep it in check. She has recently attempted to return to work but was deemed medically unfit to do her job. Thankfully her boss is understanding and is helping her apply for medical retirement but the process will take time during which she can't work and will receive no income. After months of not working and rising medical bills, our parents are feeling the excessive strain of an uncertain future. Our goal is to help them get the necessary funds to pay all the medical bills, cover all payments and debt incurred over the last 6 months and finally hold them over until the retirement is finalized. Thank you for your help and support.
