Gary and Lindy’s Disaster Recovery Fund

I’m Steven Greening and we are raising money for my parents Lindy and Gary Greening. Two young adults in their 70’s (70 is the new 40 after all) who have made friends around the globe in their travels with the Army.

After 25 years of living in Central Florida they were unfortunately severely impacted by the most recent hurricane Ian. The profile photo shows an aerial shot of their neighborhood and surrounding area right after the storm. Fortunately they were out of town when the storm hit and no human or animal in the Greening family was harmed. (A big thank you here to the Florida National Guard who came through the neighborhood to rescue people and pets.)

The storm caused flooding of their house up to about three feet, which totaled out both of their vehicles that were parked at home and ruined about 95% of their belongings. Without flood insurance they are facing the strong possibility of having to personally finance the removal, cleanup and repair of their home along with the replacement of all of their furniture, clothes and appliances on their own over the next 6-7 months while also buying replacement vehicles. (their vehicles were insured but they don’t reimburse the replacement value and the used car market is pretty expensive right now). FEMA does have some help that is in process but the rough numbers so far show about $100-120k in estimated costs and only about $40k of aid.

Add in the stress of seeing so many of their life’s memories trashed, no home, no vehicles and their increasing health concerns it’s really a pretty terrible place for them to be.

For now they are staying at their second favorite son Michael’s house but we are working on getting them a place of their own (and less full of farts) so if you want to mail something (Boomers I’m looking at you!) then you can send it to my address at 8731 Atwater Loop, Oviedo, FL 32765 for now until they figure out their new living arrangements.
