Hi there! Our clinic MaxWell Medical has been privileged to look after Garry over the last three years. Unfortunately, Garry was diagnosed with a cancerous lung tumor in June, just three months shy of his 81st birthday. It causes him to feel tired and short of breath.
On the positive side, the tumor is small and hasn't yet spread to other parts of his lungs. In addition, Garry's specialist (Dr Azim Valji) recently sent us a report stating that it's very treatable. The treatment would be done through radiation and partial tumor resection at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton.
When we shared the good news with Garry, we were astonished by the glum look on his face. He told us that he couldn't afford to proceed with treatment because of the cost of travel (Edmonton is about 450 km south of Fort McMurray) plus the expense of accommodations there. Typically, patients need five radiation sessions per week (Mondays through Fridays) for 5 to 7 weeks.
Garry and his wife are extremely income limited. He has explored other possible funding sources but has come up short. We explained the idea of "GoFundMe" to him, and Garry gave us his consent to share his story with the public. He's a lovely gentleman, and once his cancer is eradicated, we believe he has many wonderful years ahead.
We kindly ask your help raising $3,500 to fund travel and accommodation costs for Garry's cancer treatments.
