Garrett’s Grapple with Cancer

The Faceoff
Though he is my cousin by birth, Garrett Taylor is more importantly my brother and my best friend, has been since we were in diapers (that’s us on the left).

I’m not the only one to claim him as my brother, many do so. Unfortunately, it seems to be that the best people are constantly faced with the worst circumstances - Garrett was recently diagnosed with cancer, specifically glioblastoma or GBM.

Round 1
This started suddenly, unexpectedly… aggressively with no warning. One day Garrett was enjoying family dinner, the next he was in critical condition with seizures racking his body. The seizures were found to be due to a tumor with a diameter of roughly 5 centimeters in his frontal lobe.

We almost lost him before he even made it to the operating table.

Thankfully, he overcame that 1st hurdle and his surgeon was able to successfully remove the entire tumor.

Since then, Garrett’s recovery from this initial bout with GBM has been remarkable- within a few short days he was discharged to continue recovery from home and spend time with his new fiancé, Tiffany.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of GBM- it’s aggressiveness and rate of survival- we know that the battle is not over.

Round 2+
With extensive research and discussions with his doctors, Garrett has come to understand the expected tolls (financial, emotional, physical) that this will take on him.

He started radiation and chemotherapy November 3rd. He is expected to go through radiation for a total of 5 weeks and continue chemotherapy medication for 6 months after, however, his treatment plan is subject to change depending on how he responds. So far, though, he is taking it all like a warrior. He’s not giving up.

Garrett’s Corner
Garrett is continuing to work to support himself and his treatment, and is not one to ask for help. However, understanding the nature of his treatment we -his family- have urged him to allow us to ask on his behalf. He has reluctantly consented, but not for much.

Garrett plans to continue working throughout his treatment, so as of right now, the goal that we are placing on this GoFundMe is $3,000: $750 for gas to and from his radiation therapy (100 mile round trip, 5 days a week for a total of 6 weeks), $750 to support the increase in cost of the organic groceries as he changes up his diet, and $1,500 for his insurance’s deductible and out of pocket maximum.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated, more than you know. I know that I speak for Garrett, his family & his loved ones when I say:

THANK YOU.
