Hi everyone,
Thanks for watching the video! It explains our situation fairly well but here are the specifics at a glance, plus a little more information:
-My mother was diagnosed with Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis around 2002/2003 at the age of 32
-She has had what's called an "attack" twice since her diagnosis, the most recent one happening just a few weeks ago which caused her to be hospitalized. She has been unable to fully recover, which is the reason for this fundraising campaign.
-My father is the primary (and sole) caretaker for my mother, who needs constant care and attention because she has lost most of her mobility, plus she struggles with deep anxiety and depression. Because of this he can hardly work because his priority is my mother and the majority of his time is dedicated to taking care of her, which has caused my family to struggle financially for a long time.
-My parents are entirely isolated; all of our family is abroad and we've already exhausted all of our resources having already received aid from them on several occasions, plus all our credit cards are maxed out.
-I have been unable to contribute to the household since I moved out two years ago to come to LA for my career.
-I'll be moving back in temporarily to be there for my mom and to help my father free up time so that he can work and get our family back on track, but in the meantime we need a financial cushion and we need to settle some accounts that are past due (primarily the rent, which is behind a few months). This is urgent because my parents are at risk of eviction right now.
-In the fall of 2017 we lost our family dog, Chestnut (who you can see in the video), which has turned out to be an exacerbating incident for my mother emotionally and thus has affected her health as well, since our dog was her constant companion and had been an important support since her diagnosis.
-Recently after her hospitalization the scooter my mom uses to get around broke down and needs a part replaced and repaired, or she may need an entirely new scooter if we can't fix this one (which she's been using for 10 years). The cost of this is included in the sum that we are trying to raise.
-The purpose of this fund is to help our family get back up to date with all the bills that we currently owe and are past due on, most urgently the rent which is several months past due and has put my parents at risk of eviction. This way I can help my family by being an added support in the household as caregiver and my dad can focus a bit more on working and getting back on track. We can't both work all the time, someone needs to be around for my mother 24/7 so we need that added financial support at least temporarily so we can stabilize the situation.
