Medical Support for Garett Eichhorn

Hi, my name is Janel and my sisters, and I are raising funds to support my brother Garett.
Garett is a humble, hard-working family man with 2 children, Riley and Olivia, and a fiance, Dana. You may know him around town as the local plumber. Garett is extremely close lipped about his personal business. In fact, many family members and friends had no idea that he has been experiencing health problems since the fall of 2022. I grudgingly received Garett’s blessing to share this information.
In October 2023, Garett had surgery for what he thought was a reoccurrence of nasal polyps. At that time, he had a 90% occlusion of his nasal passages. Breathing was difficult, eating/breathing was even more difficult, headaches and vision disturbances were all becoming commonplace. As the biopsies in those “polyps” came back, he was told that they were not really polyps at all, but tumors. He had been diagnosed with phosphaturic mesenchymal tumors. Upon his next post-surgical checkup, it was confirmed the tumors were already regrowing.
Given the aggressiveness of the tumor regrowth and the extremely rare nature of this condition combined with growth in the sinonasal cavity, Garett was referred to Mayo Clinic in MN. His neurosurgical team met to discuss the MRI scans which showed the tumors were throughout the sinonasal cavity and pushing into his brain cavity, thus the bulging behind his eye and changes with vision and headaches. He needed prompt surgical intervention.
Garett had an 8-hour surgery on 2/28 to remove the tumor masses throughout the nasal cavities and on his skull base. He had soft tissues stripped from his leg to replace tissues and bone in the sinonasal/skull base area, which needed to be removed with the tumor. Biopsies of the tumors extracted were consistent with benign PMT tumors, thank goodness. While they can’t guarantee it won’t grow back, they were hopeful the chances are much less by removing the bone it was growing on. This rare tumor has a history of weakening the bones, leading to further bone disease, but we are hopeful that it was removed early enough to reduce this possibility of occurrence in the future.
Garett & Dana finally came home on 3/12, after a long hospitalization and initial recovery period. Unfortunately, Garett is not allowed to return to normal work duties for 3 more months and is on current lifting restrictions of less than 10lbs. Because Garett is self-employed, no work= no income.
Any financial help will go directly to pay for the lengthy hospitalization & surgery-related costs incurred, as well as helping to support his recovery over the next few months. If you are unable to help financially, please consider sharing this post with your network. There is also a "Garett Eichhorn Beneficiary" account setup through Integra First Credit Union on Hwy2/41 in Powers, or you can mail in a check to Integra First Credit Union, P. O. Box 604, Powers MI 49874.
Garett & Dana appreciate all the love & support, Thank you!
