Gareth Atkinson

As friends of Gareth we are devastated by his recent and unexpected passing. To say Gaz was a great friend and one of lifes great characters is a understatement, and the hole that’s left can never be filled. Life long friends we shared everything, a million laughs and some tears. Always had a smile on his face and a cheeky glint in his eyes.

Gareth was a grafter, had worked hard all his life ,working away from home for long periods of time 7 days a week to provide for his family. Unfortunately in the last few years his health had seriously suffered and he was unable to work. As a self employed person of many years he received no help and eventually fell on the hardest of times.

Gareths family are now having to deal with this truly painful process, so to lift just some of the burden we’ve set up a just giving page to raise funds for his funeral. Funerals are highly expensive but without a doubt Gaz deserves the best, as you know, if Gaz had a just penny in his pocket he’d give it to you without a second thought, his generosity knew no bounds.

A warrior on the rugby pitch, Gareth never took a backward step and was one of Hessle rugbys great and long serving Forwards.

We loved Gaz and we want to give him the send off he truly deserves.

How can anyone think of Gareth and not smile. I bet there are so many stories to tell.
