Gamze's dream, master program DAI, The Netherlands

My name is Gamze Öztürk and I am a Turkish artist living in Istanbul. Over the last few years I have been dreaming of a master study in arts in the Netherlands. I am very proud to announce that I am selected for the master program at the Dutch Art Institute (DAI) at ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem (2022/2024). Unfortunately, it is very hard for Turkish artists to study abroad, because there is no scholarship arrangement between Turkey and the Netherlands. To make my dream come trueI I am asking for your attention and financial support at GoFundMe.

I am very proud to announce that I have been selected for the ArtEZ Scholarship . I am experiencing great joy and pride. The ArtEZ Scholarship includes a grant  of €5000 per academic year. (Update: 20-06-2022)

The master program costs €22.573,- for one academic year. This is needed for institutional tuition fees and the costs of registration in the Netherlands & visa applications as a financial guarantee required to prove to the migration system that I will be able to financially sustain myself in the Netherlands for the upcoming academic year. With my family’s tremendous support and my savings, I can afford most of the total required amount. But, in addition to the post-pandemic, Turkey is experiencing unusually high inflation. With the economic downfall globally, the Turkish lira has fallen dramatically, this has become extremely difficult for me. Therefore, I am looking for sponsors to support me with a total amount of €7.500 - I will explain my financial situation in details at the end of the letter. The donation will be used for the tuition fee.

 

Coming from a working-class family, my art practice is inspired by the Anatolian crafts to engage with safe spaces for female concerns and women's history in the middle-east. My dream is to explore a transgenerational archive, manifested in my ancestors' hand-woven rugs and embroidery, with the potential to reinvent identities through multiple local narratives. I believe that I can combine western and oriental theory by diving into experimental culture and artistic research. Because of this, I want to do a master's in the arts in the Netherlands. The DAI is excellent in providing the ideal links between my artistic experiences and my academic aspirations. The "Roaming Academy" structure will allow me to be reflective while remaining non-standard, flexible and creative. My aim is to bring a variety of ideas and visual languages from the perspective of Anatolian culture into the contemporary arts.
