Help an Indigenous Gitxsan elder move home
Donation protected

Hi, my name is Gloria and I am 78 years old. I am from Kispiox and I lived there most of my life with my late husband until my late husband of 61 years started to develop Alzheimers and he needed to see specialists, it was more feasible for us to move to Vancouver BC rather than continue to pay out of pocket to make appointments from Hazelton BC to Vancouver. We moved to the lower mainland 2003.
My late husband passed away May 2023 from dementia at the age 81 years.
My daughter, who lives and helps me, lost her job February 1, 2024. We talked about moving up north to be close to family for quite a few months and when my daughter was laid off, we decided that it is time to move home.
She is on EI and I am a pensioner. We would like to rent a moving truck to drive our belongings home but this will be a big expense so we are turning to GoFundMe to assist us with this financial expenditure.
Vancouver has become too expensive and it isn't the same without my husband, I wish to be closer to my sisters, my adult children, my grand and great grand children. I will be able to garden, enjoy what the waters provide (fishing), and do berry picking as well as work in our smoke house doing traditional preservation, prepare for the winter; not to mention, spend more time with my beloved family and teaching my grand and great grandchildren what my late mother taught me.
Please help me and my daughter move home. We cannot afford to rent market housing even with my daughters income, it is unaffordable. We both have two small dogs which makes securing housing even more challenging, we cannot give them up bc they have been part of our lives for 13 years. It makes more sense for us to move back to where we were raised.
Please help us. We need financial assistance with moving truck (base rental price and then they charge mileage), gas, one night lodging and meals. This will be a two day trip. Thank you.
