Recently a ventura high school student was hit by a truck on his run while on the sidewalk. Austin Gambill is currently in the ICU laying unconscious. His family could not be a nicer group of people. At any cross country meet you would hear Austin’s name because his mom would be screaming it at the top of her lungs. His dad would do constant check ins with everyone on the team and he always made everyone feel like they were enough. His brother absolutely adores him and Austin is such a great older brother. Austin is sweet. Austin is smart. Austin is funny. Austin has the potential to change the world. It is not his time. A series of random and tragic events have lead us through a tornado of emotions in the past 12 hours.  Yesterday afternoon while on a neighborhood training run for his high school track team, Austin was struck by a truck and severely injured, he was running alone. A witness was immediately able to dial 911 and provide Austin aid from first responders, he was rushed to surgery. There are a lot of injuries along with some major challenges ahead, most severe is the trauma to his brain and the extended period of elevated swelling. The team of doctors are diligently doing their best through a gambit of medications and procedures to treat and stabilize his body. Austin is breathing via a respirator and sedated. His kidneys and liver are injured, making things tough. We are all here with him through the chaos while he has so many friends here supporting him. The VHS track coaching staff and school administration are helping to support the many team members and students asking about Austin. All we ask is that you Pray with all your heart for him.
