Galena's First Dog Park

The Friends of Galena Dog Park are raising money for the creation of a free, community dog park in Galena IL. Our goal is to create a space where dogs & their owners can come, burn off some energy & make new friends. The City of Galena has approved the creation of the dog park & has agreed to maintain it once it is built. We are hoping to raise the necessary funds through grants, private donations, and other local fundraising events.
The estimated cost for Phase 1 is $46,000 this will include 3 fenced in play areas, a double gated entry, parking lot with handicap accessibility, water fountain, picnic tables, park benches & some landscaping.
In the spring of 2019 we were gifted a land donation of approx 3 acres.

Phase 1 will be establishing an 1 1/2 acres for the main park, this area is basically level & will be easy to traverse for most mobility types.
Phase 2 will be a long way off, but the idea is to keep that area wooded but fenced with a few trails cut through, since the back half is steep & heavily wooded it won't be suitable for everyone. The estimate for clearing the fence line is $7,000 and the fence & 1 gate is estimated at $8,900. We hope to retain as many of the mature trees as possible & to create a beautiful park area that the city will be proud to call their own.
If you would like your donation to be tax deductible (if your taxes allow for that) or would like to sponsor a park amenity such as a water fountain, picnic table or tree, you can donate directly to the Galena City Hall in Galena IL. They will have a form to fill out so we can keep track of & recognize all of our donors.
