galax movement duo is an unconventional contemporary dance troupe originated by Gaby Milazzo and Alex McGriff. The two joined forces in 2022 and had their first work debut in the summer of 2024. Gabriella “Gaby” Milazzo is a first generation Venezuelan artist with a BFA in Dance from the University of Florida. Milazzo now works at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, a non-profit in Washington, DC. At the Atlas, she continues to outreach, network, and build her arts and production community. Within galax movement duo, Milazzo continues to use her love of film to introduce new ideas to their dance projects. Alexandra “Alex” McGriff was also raised in the south, spending most of her time dancing in the wiregrass area. Her professional career began with Alabama Dance Works (ADW) at age 17, where she performed, taught, and choreographed award-winning routines for the company. When not teaching, Alexandra performs with DC-based company, GRIDLOCK Dance, and Virginia-Based company, ArtelnMovimento, serving as member and collaborator to their respective works. galax movement duo’s debut live work, “ser mujer”, was presented at the Dance Canvas Festival in June of 2024, in Bethesda, Maryland. Their latest work, “distortion #”, was in collaboration with Corina Dalzell and was presented at the inaugural GRIDLOCK Motion Mixer in January of 2025 in Washington, DC.
galax movement duo continues to put themselves out there with their latest project, "galax movement duo & friends: duality ", a dance and film showcase presented at the Atlas INTERSECTIONS Festival. On February 27th, 2026, an audience will get to experience the different relationships of humanity through movement and art. “duality” will highlight duet performances and films from contemporary artists including Gaby Milazzo, Alex McGriff, Corina Dalzell, Sarah Coady, Elan Robinson, Sydney Goldston, Angel Ramirez, Elvis Navarro, and Destiny Arlette Cooke. Each duet tells its own story including tales of tenderness, animosity, loss, and whimsy. Gaby Milazzo and Alex McGriff, will be restaging “distortion #”, a work that dives into body dysmorphia with inspirations from André Kertész’s Distortion photographs. Within the work, they embody the inner voice that picks and prods at flaws that one has to battle to silence. In addition, they will debut a new experimental dance film, “monsTrUo”, about a nightmare turning into reality. The friends of galax movement duo are reviving repertoire that will draw you in and welcome you to reflect, ask questions, and identify with the messaging. Corina Dalzell’s “A Little Lost” will feature dancers Sarah Coady and Gaby Milazzo as they tell a story of falling out of sync with each other, including music from Tom Waits. The duet between Elan Robinson and Sydney Goldston, "you, me & the rain: together we make three", comments on the joy of community and how the support of others can inspire movement. Angel Ramirez and Elvis Navarro bring a personal story about the fears of being ripped away from loved ones due to the current mass deportations with their duet, “What If I Never Saw You Again?”. “SHEEP”, created by Destiny Arlette Cooke, is a short dance film exploring the blurred lines between self and relationships— how identity is challenged in our attempts to connect.
As a young and new dance company, Alex and Gaby fund all their projects out of pocket. They create costumes from their own closet and thrifted materials. Their props are built using scraps and repurposing trash. Wherever they lack in knowledge during the creating process, they seek help from their community to fill the gaps. Supporting this project will fund additional production costs, as well as support the individual artists. galax movement duo will distribute any remaining funds not used for production purposes to the participating artists; this is will be in addition of what they will share from the 50% of Box Office sales Atlas pays out to all INTERSECTIONS artists. Please consider donating to support this project and the incredibly talented artists putting it together!
