Hello! My name is Heather Leppard and I am the Music Teacher at Girls Academic Leadership Academy (GALA) in Los Angeles, CA.

The singers in GALA’s Serenata and Camerata Choirs have the amazing opportunity to perform at the Heritage Choral Festival in Anaheim, CA on March 25 & 26, 2023. This is an adjudicated choral festival that attracts performing ensembles from all over the United States. Not only will our singers have the opportunity to perform for the judges and audience, but they will also get to work with one of the judges to improve their performance for the future, and see the other choirs perform. As part of the Festival, they will attend an Awards Ceremony at Disney’s California Adventure, stay overnight in a hotel, and then spend a day bonding and having fun at Disneyland.

Our students are incredibly excited to have this chance to travel and perform, and are working hard to prepare their repertoire and give an amazing performance. However, we need your help to get them there! So far, we have raised over $18,000 towards our trip, but still have a little over $9,000 to raise. This works out to less than $160 per student.

GALA is a Title I school in the heart of midtown Los Angeles. We are an all-girls school with a focus on sending young ladies to college and into STEM professions where they have been historically underrepresented. Although the overarching mission of our school is STEM, we are also building a thriving Fine Arts Program because we believe every student deserves the opportunity to engage in the arts and creative expression.
