GAIA: a senior thesis by Liz Roman
Donation protected
My name is Liz Roman and I am a student, artist, dancer, and educator. I am also a graduating senior in my undergrad for Dance Performance and Choreography at Spelman College. I am asking for donations and support in sharing this GoFundMe for my following Senior Thesis Capstone.
“Gaia (/ˈɡeɪə, ˈɡaɪə/; Ancient Greek: Γαῖα, romanized: Gaîa, a poetic form of Γῆ (Gê), meaning 'land' or 'earth'), also spelled Gaea (/ˈdʒiːə/), is the personification of Earth. Gaia is the ancestral mother—sometimes parthenogenic—of all life.”
Following the journey of two sisters, the mother of the natural world, and the mother of the digital world.
At one point in time, two sisters joined as one, Gaia, ruled Earth in harmony. Then soon came the rapid advancement of human civilization. Through war and division, they soon became separated and a contentious relationship arose. Now, the mother of the natural world and the mother of the digital world, with the physical deterioration of one sister and the modern-day advancements of the other, must come together again as one. Will Gaia prove they can unite their individual power and can overcome an apocalyptic fate surrounding the relationship between humans and technology?
Through the mediums of live performance (music and dance), 3D art structures, motion capture, and film, I will present this story in a culminating showcase this upcoming May!
In addition to applying to multiple wonderful grants and financial opportunities Atlanta offers to the arts community, I’ve come on here to share my GoFundMe which will support:
- Compensation for dancers and crew
- Securing a beautiful gallery at the B Complex in order to present this showcase.
To further emphasize the element of community through my thesis, this GoFundMe will also fund research toward building a creative coding and gaming initiative in conjunction with my thesis which will support youth in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics).
Thank you for reading all or any of this and I would very much appreciate it if you shared this around
