My name is Alex. My son Gage De La Cobas was involved in a dirt bike accident on Labor Day weekend at the Pismo Beach Dunes. Gage went off a widow's peak in the dunes, falling approx 40 ft. He was flown to a local hospital in Santa Maria where he was stabilized on life support... Receiving the phone call from the Park Ranger at Pismo Beach about Gage's accident was the scariest moment of my life.
Gage suffered cracked ribs, a cracked sternum, and a mild crack in his pelvis and lower lumbar spine. He had a lacerated liver, a collapsed lung, and a badly broken right arm. Most devastating was a brain hemorrhage and contusion. Gage had surgery on his right arm the day after the accident, and was extubated from the ventilator later that evening. Over the last two weeks we have prayed and have received the miracle of quick recovery for Gage. This week we had him transferred to an acute rehab facility in Sacramento that specializes in brain injuries. He is receiving excellent care there, and the physicians and therapists say he looks better than what they expected based on his injuries. Gage will need a lengthy recovery period to allow his brain to heal. We are fortunate that he is young and healthy, as this will make this process easier.
Gage graduated from NorthWest Lineman College in Denton, TX in 2022, and is in the apprentice Lineman program with PG&E. He started his career there a little over 2 years ago, and loves his job and his coworkers.
Thank you for reaching out to support Gage and our family. Any funds raised will go directly to Gage to help pay medical expenses not covered by insurance, and to help with his bills while he is off work to recover. Your prayers are greatly appreciated.
Please send Gage messages... He will love to hear from his friends and family while in rehab.
Thank You,
Alex De La Cobas
