Gabriel's Journey to Full Recovery

Donation protected
On Saturday night my boyfriend of over a year, Gabriel Helwig, was leaving my parents house and was hit by a car on his motorcycle by an uninsured driver. The impact was so severe that his helmet actually flew off. He was immediately taken to SLU hospital suffering multiple injuries and fractures. They immediately took him into surgery due to a compound femur fracture and shattered knee cap. He is also facing surgery on his arm due to multiple fractures. Since then, he had complications to the surgery on his leg, causing Compartment Syndrom which lead to another emergency surgery. He is scheduled for 2 surgeries on Wednesday, 10/26. We are SO thankful that even though the helmet flew off there are no brain injuries. He did have facial contusions and swelling but due to a great plastic surgeon, he will still be a Leonardo DiCaprio look-alike. Gabe has a long road of recovery ahead of him and will be unable to work for quite sometime.

Gabriel is a 20 year old and has been living on his own and working his way through college. He recently obtained a new job and was in the process of obtaining health insurance but had not gone through. On top of all the insurmountable medical expenses, Gabriel has multiple living expenses including: college tuition, car payment/insurance, phone, etc.

I have never met someone as special as Gabriel. He is the strongest, most determined, and kindest man I have ever met. We met working together at Panera, where he trained me and after a month of flirting and working together, we went out for coffee. Since then, we have grown as people, in our relationship, as well as our relationship with God.

Seeing him like this is heartbreaking. He is in constant pain and the thought of "what if" or of what else could have happened tortures the mind. I am so thankful that it is just broken bones, however this recovery process, mentally and physically, will be a very hard and long process. We ask you for your prayers and your support.  Anything you can give to help him in this difficult journey would be greatly appreciated!
