Medicaid denied his flight to Nebraska. He will be transported to UAB to be set up with a long term IV access for his nutrition and then hopefully get to Nebraska. Corey will be going with Kelcie and will be out of work for however long it takes so these donations will be SUCH great help to them during these hard times. Gabriel was born Oct 2 with Gastroschisis. This is a defect beside the umbilical cord that allows the bowel/other organs like the bladder to come through that hole and float around in the amniotic fluid. Typically when the baby is born the defect can be closed and the baby has limited long term problems. However, when Gabriel was born they found that he has closed/vanishing gastroschisis and the defect cut off of the blood supply to almost all of his small bowel. He was taken to emergency surgery and left with only 3-4 cm of remaining small bowel. He is dependent on IV nutrition at this point and his waiting for transfer to Nebraska by jet to be evaluated for a bowel transplant in the future. Our sweet boy has a very long road ahead but our family will do everything in our power to keep him here with us. As of right now he is hospitalized in Mobile, Alabama and his parents are doing everything in their power to try to get him transferred for a higher level of care. All proceeds will be donated directly to Kelcie and Corey to cover the cost of Gabriel’s medical expenses and cover the cost of their travel wherever this journey takes him.
