Hello, my name is Shawn. I am the lucky mother of 3 wonderful young men. After 2 years of being passed around the medical community and enduring several concussions and other injuries to his body, my youngest son Gabriel, has been diagnosed with Functional Neurologic Disorder or FND and Orthostatic Intolerance. Both conditions are life long, there is no cure and the symptoms can be managed through extensive physical therapy, extensive cognitive brain therapy, extensive occupational therapy, and lifestyle changes.
Gabriel’s insurance will only cover 15 visits for each of these therapies per year and the recommended treatment is much more intense and excessive than that.
My son went from being completely independent, and free of illness with the exception of a cold now and then, to having multiple medical issues dizziness ,with digestion issues waking up with headaches daily, having blind spots in his vision, issues with regulation of his body temperature, he has multiple episodes of syncope daily. He has cognitive issues, and has developed muscle jerks and is also having sleep issues. He now uses a wheelchair to be able to safely attend school, stay home alone and be able to safely go out in public. This is just a small list of medical issues that he has endured and and continues to do so. Mayo Clinic in Rochester does have a course of treatment that will benefit my son, while it will not cure him it will give him the necessary tools needed to help manage his symptoms.
Any and all donations will be used to cover his medical cost. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you and God Bless!
