THE ANNUAL GATHERING OF AMERICA’S HIGH-ACHIEVING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ASPIRING TO BE THE NEXT GENERATION OF
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY LEADERS
My Daughter Gabrielle was nominated for the National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists Award of Excellence. This nomination to become a Delegate to this Congress is based on her superb leadership and academic excellence.
Gabrielle is currently a sophmore with intention to graduate high school this year. She is the President of her student council and has a 3.73 gpa.
This is a three day event with dozens of the world's brightest scientists and keynote speakers such as Buzz Aldrin and Nobel Peace Prize winners John C. Mather Ph.D and David Wineland Ph.D(http://www.scitechleaders.com/).
The congress is being held in Cambridge, Massachusetts (June 29-July 1st) which is also my home state and where my family resides. Every July 4th my family has a reunion that I have only attended once since I came west in 1998. Gabrielle has never attended and has only met her maternal family a few times.
Our campaign is for Gabrielle to attend the conference and for both of us to be in Massachussetts for the family reunion. For Gabrielle to attend the conference we need $1634 which covers tuition and accomodations. This breaks down into three payments. We must pay $546 on January 8th. The next two payments of $544 are due on February 8th and March 8th. By May we hope to purchase the round-trip plane tickets that will likely cost around $600 per person. That is why our campaign is asking for $3000.
This event is a big deal. I don't have the money to send her myself, but I don't want her to miss this opportunity and more importantly she is very excited about it and wants to go. I know in her mind that she would never expect to go because we are generally unable to do anything like this.
Gabrielle would be a unique representative to this congress. Her life has been and continues to be quite extraordinary. She grew up in the coastal mountains of Oregon on an old homestead turned intentional community Alpha Farm (http://members.pioneer.net/~alpha/). She completed her Freshman year of high school in the 8th grade. For a few weeks in October Gabrielle and I were at Standing Rock helping in the wellness tent, cooking and serving food and on direct action as water protectors. The thought that she will be engaging with genuis minds from around the country and the world is mind boggling, and makes total sense because Gabrielle is an exceptionally bright young woman.
This trip would be a dream come true for both of us. Not only would it be a major milestone for Gabrielle, but it is also a great preparation for her going to college. She will be engaging with some of the brightest students in our nation and beginning her next phase of life with fresh insight.
The other treat is that Gabrielle will be meeting cousins for the first time. While she is at the congress I will be staying with my family and loving up on all my nieces and nephews that I rarely see. All in all it would be an amazing journey for both of us.
