Hello Everyone,
My name is Celine Meunier and I am a single mother of a child with a severe disability. I am starting a GoFundMe page to raise money for my daughter Gabriella. She needs a lot of special equipment to assist with her care and muscle therapy. Unfortunately, the equipment and other services are not covered by my insurance and our family can’t afford to update and replace all the equipment she needs. Gabriella was born with Cerebral Palsy with Spasticity. Spasticity is a condition in which certain muscles are continuously contracted. The contraction causes stiffness or tightness of the muscles and interferes with normal movement and speech. It has affected her ability to control her arms, legs, and speech. As a result she is totally dependent on others to care for all her needs. Fortunately for technology, she uses an eye gaze computer to communicate.
Gabriella is fun, loving, smart , sweet and very perceptive. She is multi-lingual, and understands English, French, Italian, and a little Japanese. She is 13 and her mind is sharp and vibrant. She loves to read, listen to music, watch movies, surf the web and hang out with her friends. Her passions are music and eating delicious food.
Gabriella needs a special therapeutic bike because she has outgrown the one she has and we need to replace it. Information about the bike is in the link below. Please take a look at it.
Exercising is essential to maintaining her flexibility in her joints and build muscle mass. Because she has no control of her arms and legs we have to do the steering and guiding. Her legs move with the pedals, that turn as we push her. Gabriella loves to ride her bike with her friends and during PE class.
Riding a bike provides both fun and fitness, and is a therapeutic activity that allows Gabriella to exercise her lower extremities. As the muscles move through cycling motions, they are flexed and extended and stretched. This range of motion is crucial for children with disabilities, because muscles are incapable of keeping up with bone growth unless fully extended. Disabling contractures are a consequence of immobility.
We need the following equipment which are not covered by insurance:
• Freedom Concept As Adaptive Tricycle ($5,100)
• A new lightweight travel wheelchair ($5,200)
• A new mount/bracket to fix her eye-gaze computer to the new chair ($2,000)
• Freedom Concepts Chill Out Alternative Chair ($2,100)
At home, there is nowhere that Gabby can sit other than her wheelchair. There is a special chair that we desire, where she can sit and be supported in a different position than her otherwise 90 degree sitting position in the wheelchair.
