We would like to introduce you to our dear son Derek and beloved daughter-in-law Gabriella, who were happily united in holy matrimony in 2022. Their shared love of music, nature and devotion to the Catholic Faith brought them together, however they did not realize how much more they had in common.
Immense tribulation has been the rule of their marriage; both experiencing a serious and simultaneous decline in health. Enfeebling fatigue, weight loss and migraines are symptoms Derek and Gabriella have in common, along with abdominal inflammation and pain.
Years of doctors appointments, tests and procedures have provided no answers or relief for their afflictions. The hospital has frequently been the scene of their quality time together. Only a recent visit to a specialist in Germany gave to Derek and Gabriella what they had long been awaiting: a diagnosis. Both have severe and rare vascular compression syndromes.
Derek's diagnoses:
May-Thurner syndrome (compression of a major pelvic vein)
Diaphragmatic Budd- Chiari syndrome (compression of veins in liver)
Severe median arcuate ligament syndrome (celiac artery compressed)
Severe nutcracker syndrome (left kidney vein compression, causes migraines and reproductive malfunction)
Severe pelvic congestion
Gabriella's diagnoses:
Maximum form of May-Thurner syndrome (complete obstruction of a major pelvic vein)
Severe nutcracker syndrome
Median arcuate ligament syndrome
Wilkie syndrome (small bowel compression, involves weight loss, vomiting and painful ingestion of food)
Severe pelvic congestion
These syndromes contribute to infertility and increase the risk of life-threatening blood clotting.
Although Derek is currently employed in a mechanic shop, he is struggling to continue in his work, while Gabriella's more extreme symptoms have already rendered her incapable of fulfilling her daily duties. Treatment for these combined vascular compression syndromes is not available in Canada and requires surgical intervention exclusively offered at a private clinic in Düsseldorf.
The money will be used to fund Derek and Gabriella's respective surgeries and aftercare, along with flights to and from Germany. Our family would be truly grateful for any assistance given, including the sharing of this page. Prayers offered for their patience and perseverance in carrying their crosses are treasured above all.
