Support Gabi's purchase of a new violin

Hi! My name is Gabriela Salvador Riera, and I am a 17-year-old violinist living in Wilmington, Delaware and studying at Cab Calloway School of the Arts. As a senior in high school, I am in the process of applying to college and have received invitations to audition at top music conservatories and universities, such as the New England Conservatory, Oberlin Conservatory, and Rice University. I have been saving up to afford a high quality violin and I need your help.

A new violin would take me through the next phase of my musical journey- my college-conservatory studies and young professional life. My current violin was my mom’s and I am very grateful that it has allowed me so many amazing opportunities thus far. It has a beautifully warm sound, but is limited in the clarity, projection, and ease-to-play that my level of repertoire requires. Instruments of this caliber are a significant investment and can be anywhere from $20,000 to over $50,000.

After careful consultation with my teacher, we have identified a $25,000 instrument from David Michie Violins, a wonderful luthier in Philadelphia. At this time, I am $15,000 short of being able to acquire the violin I need.

With the generous help of my mentors, I have achieved a high level of musicianship and I am confident I have what it takes to be successful. I studied with Julianne Murphy at the Music School of Delaware from 2015 to 2022, where I graduated from the Suzuki Academy with High Honors. I now study with Shelley Beard at the Settlement Music School, where I also play in the Advanced Study Newman String Quartet coached by William Polk of the Philadelphia Orchestra. I am honored to be the concertmaster of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, the second place laureate of the renowned Sphinx Competition, and a semi-finalist for this year’s competition to be held in 2024. I am a proud PMAY (Philadelphia Music Alliance for Youth) Artist and fellow of NPR’s From the Top Learning and Media Lab. This past October, I had the honor of making my professional solo debut with the Erie Philharmonic.

¡Hola! Mi nombre es Gabriela Salvador Riera y soy una violinista de 17 años. Vivo en Wilmington, Delaware y estudió en el instituto Cab Calloway School of the Arts. En mi último año de secundaria, estoy en el proceso de aplicar a la universidad. He recibido invitaciones para audicionar en los mejores conservatorios de música y universidades del país, como New England Conservatory, Oberlin Conservatory y Rice University. He estado ahorrando para comprar un violín de alta calidad y necesito tu ayuda.

Un nuevo violín me llevaría a la siguiente fase de mi vida musical: mis estudios en el conservatorio universitario y mi vida como joven profesional. Mi violín actual era de mi madre y estoy muy agradecida que me haya brindado tantas oportunidades increíbles hasta ahora. Tiene un sonido maravillosamente cálido, pero tiene limitaciones en cuanto a claridad, proyección y facilidad técnica que requiere mi nivel de repertorio. Los instrumentos de este calibre son una inversión importante y pueden costar entre 20.000 y más de 50.000 dólares.

Después de una cuidadosa búsqueda con mi maestra, hemos identificado un instrumento de 25.000 dólares de David Michie Violins, un maravilloso luthier de Filadelfia. En este momento, me faltan 15.000 dólares para poder adquirir el violín que necesito.

Con el generoso apoyo de mis mentores, he alcanzado un alto nivel musical y estoy segura de que tengo lo necesario para llegar al siguiente nivel. Empecé mis estudios en Valencia con Elena Roig en Cordes Espai Educatiu. Desde el 2015 al 2022, estudié con Julianne Murphy en la Escuela de Música de Delaware, donde me gradué de la Academia Suzuki con Altos Honores. Ahora estudió con Shelley Beard en la Settlement Music School de Filadelfia, donde también toco en el Cuarteto de Cuerdas Newman de Estudio Avanzado dirigido por William Polk de la Orquesta de Filadelfia. Me siento honrada de ser la concertino de la Orquesta Juvenil de Filadelfia, ganadora del segundo premio en el renombrado Concurso Sphinx y semifinalista del concurso de este año que se celebrará en 2024. Soy una orgullosa artista de PMAY (Alianza Musical de Filadelfia para la Juventud) y miembro del From the Top Learning and Media Lab de NPR. El pasado mes de octubre tuve el honor de hacer mi debut profesional como solista con la Filarmónica de Erie.
