Hi! My name is Gabe Anderson. I am a happy, silly, and friendly 15 year old middle school student. I also have cerebral palsy. I depend on a wheelchair to get around and need help with all my daily activities like eating, hygiene, toileting, and even getting comfortable and rolling around at night but I don’t let that stop me from having lots of fun! I love playing challenger baseball and football and going bowling. I am a huge bowling fan, the PBA is my favorite! I know all the players and love watching the tournaments.
I have cerebral palsy because I was born very early and was not breathing when I was born. My mom gets pretty emotional when she tells me the story. At the time the doctors told her it was very likely I would not live to be more than a few days old, and if I did, I would not be able to do any of the things that other kids can do. It was very scary… but, I love to work hard and I have been proving them wrong ever since. Mommy and Daddy always tell me I’ll only know if I can do it if I try! I surprise my parents and teachers all the time with the new things I accomplish. Especially considering what doctors thought when I was born.
To get me around safely my parents need a special van converted to transport me in my wheelchair. Our current van is 9 years old and recently experienced catastrophic electrical problems even the dealership cannot fix. So, unexpectedly and quite suddenly we are without a van. Everyone has been scrambling to get me from here to there and we’ve had to cancel some of my appointments because I can’t get there safely.
My mommy and daddy always tell me it is important to ask for help when you need it. That is why I decided to post on GoFundMe.com. My parents need a handicapped accessible van so I can get to my activities and appointments safely. The kind of van we need is very expensive, ($50,000-$65,000) the wheelchair conversion alone can run up to $27,000. We are hoping to raise enough money for a large down payment toward the cost of a van with the conversion. My parents and I appreciate anything you could donate. Please help us raise this money!
