Gabby&Jodies fundraiser in memory of Valerie Lumb
I’ll never forget the 27th June 2020 when I relieved a phone call from my mum at 4am in the morning to tell me that the transplant centre at Wythenshawe hospital had found a match and she was going in for her double transplant! Definitely one of the best days but scariest days of my life.
My mum has suffered for around 10 years with pneumonia and CPD like symptoms and in the end we discovered she had a genetic disorder called Alpha 1 antitripsin deficiency. This transplant gave my mum 2 years of life and fun. She recovered like a trouper and was home in just a matter of weeks! She spent everyday with me and the kids and got two extra years to spend with my self and my brother Jack and his 4 children and all the rest of the family. Precious memorise we will never forget
Sadly mum died on the 10th October and my life hasn’t been the same since that day. However without the transplant we wouldn’t have had the two precious years we had with my mum. Val Lumb the one and only the life of every party and everything. Wythenshawe hospital were amazing from the very beginning starting with mums transplant and to the very end when we had to say our final goodbyes. Every member of staff on the Jim Quick Ward went the extra mile to make the worst time of our lives more bareable. We simply cannot thank them enough for everything.
So when my friend Jodie asked me if I wanted to the Tough Mudder for a bit of fun in Skipton in the 1st August I thought why not raise some money for a charity so very close to my heart and do my best friend and my mum proud. It’s a 5 k run with lots of obstacles and sounds right up mums street, rolling around in mud!
Please dig deep folks for this amazing charity and please consider organ donation, I have seen first hand the amazing impact it can have on families like ours.
