Gabby’s Fight Against Cancer!

Donation protected
Gabrielle Gurney was diagnosed with SMARCA4 Sarcoma (a rare form of uterine cancer) on 10/06/2020, shortly after she celebrated a ‘normal’ 29th birthday. Her diagnosis came out of nowhere, when all of a sudden, she didn’t feel well and decided to go to the Emergency Room to be seen. Gabby quickly had multiple tests and procedures done to determine the best course of action.  Sadly, she had a complete hysterectomy on 10/21/2020.  She recovered well from surgery and anxiously waited to see what the next steps were. She had follow up meetings and consults with local doctors as well as specialists from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC. Together they formed a treatment plan that consisted of 6-9 rounds of intense chemotherapy. Each round consists of 3 weeks (one week with chemo and 2 weeks between). Each week of chemo consists of 3 four-hour treatments and 1 two-hour immunotherapy session. She will have various tests between rounds of chemo to monitor her heart, kidneys, and liver functions. Her first round of chemo started on 12/15/2020. So far, she has been handling it as expected- she is extremely tired and just started experiencing nausea, but she is tough. She has already required a blood transfusion due to the chemo depleting her blood levels.

Up until the start of her chemo, Gabby continued to work. In-between everything, Gabby contracted and beat COVID which delayed the start of her treatment. Gabby is unable to work due to the chemo depleting her immune system and her susceptibility to infection. Gabby is employed through CEO of Troy and works within the Hoosic Valley Pre-K program. “Miss Gabby” is dedicated to her job and loved by her students. She has always shown support and love for her students, their parents, and her surrounding community. She always offers to help others in need and has such a big caring heart!

Gabby is so humble, that when the idea of a Go Fund Me Page was mentioned to help with expenses during her chemo...she said she wanted to think about it for a bit! Gabby needs to focus on her health and staying positive during the next 9+ months. Gabby has an amazing immediate and extended family that continues to support her in whatever way possible, but she shouldn’t have to worry about if she can afford her copayments, treatment related bills or day to day expenses. Please consider donating to a young woman who has given so much to her community.  Let’s show Gabby our support and cheer her on as she beats this terrible disease!
