Remington & George's Sailing 2016

This summer we want to refine our racing skills while competing in regattas around the Chesapeake Bay and the country, with a focus on competing in the major C420 summer regattas. Participating on the C420 Annapolis Yacht Club Summer Race Team will push our abilities to the next level. We believe we can be successful because we have the right motivation and work ethic, which is an essential part of excelling at any sport. Also, being in Annapolis, Maryland, we have access to the resources and coaches to support our efforts.

We seek to raise $25,000 in grant money and sponsorships to fund our team/boat. A budget of $25,000 would cover the cost for us to charter a C420 sailboat and pay the trailer fees. It would also pay for team membership fees, regatta fees, travel expenses to and from regattas, equipment such as a trapeze, team gear and more. We have a goal of sailing in three major regattas: Club 420 National Championships in Falmouth, MA; Club 420 Team Race National Championship in East Greenwich, RI; and Buzzards Bay Regatta in Marion, MA. If our budget allowed, we would also like to compete in the Hyannis Regatta, and additional regattas in the MidAtlantic region that require an overnight stay.

We are two high school students who are members of the Varsity Annapolis High School Sailing Team. Our team practices Monday through Friday after school March through May, and September through November. We have Regatta’s every weekend during the spring and fall. The Annapolis High School Sailing Team sails in Fleet races, Team races and J22 Keelboat races. Both of us participate in these three types of races during the school year. Our team’s highest achievement in 2015 was placing 6th in the High School Keelboat National Championship.

In addition to our sailing activities, we will be giving back to the community this spring and summer through volunteering at events such as the Leukemia Cup, and programs including the Box of Rain Summer Sailing Program and the Downtown Sailing Center in Baltimore.

The two of us have the potential to do well in the summer race circuit and are very much looking forward to learning more about this complex and exciting sport. We are both passionate about sailing and believe that participating in the summer regattas will help us gain skills that will further our competitive edge. We plan on sailing through College and beyond.
