Update: It is with the greatest of sorrow that we share that Brian passed away this Tuesday, August 6th, 2019 . In true Brian fashion, he continues to be a giver even after he is no longer with us physically. Able to be a donor, he will give of himself to help others in need, allow research to bring about better healthcare and live on in others. For Kathleen, his wife, this act of giving allows some solace in knowing there is now a purpose that can come from this tragic loss. For the last two and a half weeks, Kathleen has been by Brian’s bedside everyday from morning through night. Her pain is indescribable. She now has to face what life will be like without this amazing man by her side. She needs us now more than ever. As friends and family, we need to continue to hold Kathleen in the light and in our hearts and, if possible help to ease the financial challenges ahead. All contributions are so appreciated. Kathleen is eternally grateful for the support thus far. The funds raised will allow her to provide the send off Brian so deserves and hopefully help her to begin to navigate the new normal without him.
On Sunday morning, July 21st, while beginning the day at home, Brian Kornfeld tragically fell and required emergency brain surgery at Stony Brook Hospital to attempt to address the traumatic brain injury incurred. His wife, Kathleen, was home when he fell and has been by his side in ICU. Her deep love for him is ever present. Brian remains in critical condition and, at this time, the future is unclear.
For those who know Kathleen and Brian, they know what an amazing couple they are. They have been together since college and they embody what a life partnership is meant to be. Theirs is a love many only dream of and it is obvious to all who meet them. Incredible individuals with their own passions and talents, yet together, they make an unbreakable, seamless whole.
Brian and Kathleen have unselfishly supported one another as they pursued their passions of sculpting and singing and have joyfully celebrated in each other’s successes. Each has been described as good to the core and have appreciated the good that surrounds them. They have been able to find the humor in life and make one another laugh heartily and have no trouble taking everyone with them to the point of breathless giggles.
As husband and wife, Brian and Kathleen learned to lean upon one another when faced with challenges and together, there was no obstacle they could not overcome.
Sometimes, the support of others provides the extra strength needed when the obstacles seem insurmountable.
We are asking friends, family, community members and anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful couple and experiencing the infectious positivity they share, to help make this unbelievably difficult time a little easier for Kathleen and Brian. Please consider donating whatever you can to assist with the bills and expenses associated with his current care and next steps. We also ask anyone who is comfortable doing so to please share this link with friends and family who may also wish to help. What lies ahead is unknown, but we are hoping that we, together, can financially help to make the road a little smoother for Kathleen and Brian.
Please hold Brian and Kathy in your hearts and prayers.
