On October 8, 2020, Jess got the worst news of her life and heard the words that none of us ever want to hear…you have cancer. She came to find out that she has stage 3 cervical cancer.
Jess is my sister and she is one of the most kind, caring, funny, and hard-working people I know. She has a loving husband, 3 sons (2 older and out of the house and a 12-year-old), and 2 adorable grandkids. She has been doing her best to keep her humor through her two to four doctor’s appointments a day. For anyone that knows Jess, I am sure they are not surprised when I say that she started cracking jokes and laughing about her “sick cooter” within minutes of her diagnosis. She is keeping a great attitude and is fighting like a champ.
Jess works full-time at an assembly line making medical products and also works as a hairstylist. Most days she works 14 hours a day. That was until she got too sick. She even tried to schedule a client for a haircut a day after her first round of chemo but her body told her otherwise. Even with short-term disability, her income is only 60% of her pay at her full-time job but she will also lose her income as a hairstylist. With the lost income, the co-pays, treatment, and chemotherapy, the medical bills are adding up. Jess would never ask, but her and her family need help.
