Josh Doughty's Medical fund

Hey Everyone,

I'm trying to raise some money to cover medical expenses for my son, Josh Doughty, who was involved in a very serious and life threatening motorcycle accident on July 2, 2015.  By all accounts we should've lost Josh that night but thankfully our Great God had other plans.
We had just flown down to Florida to celebrate the marriage of Dina's best friend, Cher and her bethroed James.  Very cool couple.  We had a good time for the 18 hours we were in Florida but that changed abruptly when I received a phone call at 0530 (morning) from a Mecklenberg County sheriff telling me that Josh had been severely injured in a motorcycle crash.  From my hazy memory when he told me he was in critical condition and in surgery at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, my knees left me and I fell back onto the couch.  I frantically tried to reach his mom, Leeann and/or his brother, Daniel to let someone know what had happened.   Once I got up with them and informed them of Josh's condition they made their way to Charlotte...a 3 hour drive.  Highlight of our short Florida trip was the love and support we received not only from James and Cher but all the great friends we just met that night and especially Kevin who came to our room and asked if he could say a prayer with us for Josh.   God really knows who to put in your life at the right moment.  Dina called the hospital to get information on his condition and was met with the usual red tape that being HIPPA.  All they would tell us was that he was in surgery and they were doing all they could to save his life.  No one would tell us anything until we said we could identify his tattoos.  Once we did that we found out he made it through the first surgery and  he had a lot of other injuries.  They removed his spleen, left his abdomen open which was closed during surgery the next day, had bilateral lung contusions, small pneumothorax (which didn't require a chest tube), 3 broken ribs, fracture of C1, L1, and L4 vertebrae, fractured right femur (3 places) and a fractured right fibula and to round it out a fractured jaw which was only discovered a week later while at UNC rehab hospital.  All in all he had 4 surgeries during his stay at Carolina Medical and UNC hospitals.  His mom and brother got to Charlotte well before we did that first night  They continued to keep us informed of any and all progress.  We didn't make it to the hospital until 1030p that night and let me tell you Delta airlines were no help and could care less about our emergency.
Walking into the ICU room that night and seeing my son intubated and on a ventilator was something I wasn't ready for and it just broke my heart.  The next few days were spent in the ICU then from there Josh made it to the step down unit.  Every night someone was by his side and it's been that way since.  Josh was transferred to UNC rehab hospital to begin his rehab on July 10 just 8 days removed from his accident.  While at UNC rehab Josh has excelled with his physical and occupational therapy.  Josh was discharged to home on July 21, just a few days shy of 3 weeks from the accident.  The countless prayers that were said by family, friends and even strangers has clearly helped bring this chapter in Josh's life to a more happy ending.  Thanks be to God for hearing those prayers and for all the special people who bowed their head and lifted Josh and his entire family up during a very difficult time.
He still has a long road to go with rehab and just healing.  He will have to wear a cervical collar for the next 3-4 weeks and a torso brace for the next 4-5 months when he is out of bed.  He'll be using crutches for at least the next 5 weeks until he gets the green light to bear weight on his right leg.  He'll be taking the semester off school this fall but plans to rejoin the Queens University community in January.
I'm starting this GoFundMe account for him to help defray some of the medical expenses that will be heading our way.  While a good portion is covered by my insurance we've been informed that some things have not been.  What we're asking is if any of you who have been on this journey with us feel compelled in any way to contribute a dollar or whatever you can afford or whatever God is tugging at you heart to give, we would be so grateful for any and all help no matter the amount. Thank you again for lifting Josh and us up in prayer and thank you for your contribution and support.

Sincerely,

Josh Doughty
