Rascal is not a pet, not a dog, he is happiness, he is home when you can't find your way, he is love.  He is so loved by his owner, Jimmy that he is spending his last penny trying to save his live.  Imagine your best friend being in pain and not being able to make it better,  what would you do to help?  Anything? Everything? That is what Jimmy has done tens of thousands of dollars trying to save him and keep him comfortable.  This most resent visit was over 5k alone and he isn't home yet.

Rascal's journey started started a year ago...it was the beginning of 2019 when he had his second root canal. On March 2nd Rascal went from bad to worse. He was walking around with a hunched back screaming in pain. He was rushed to the vet and told that he probably had a herniated disc. This poor little puppy could not like down or sit or roll over with screaming in pain.  After thousands of dollars, an MRI, and multiple nights of pain Rascal was diagnosed with a herniated disc in back. He then had emergency surgery and spent a few days in the ICU. Turns out he had two herniated discs.

Rascal came home and was getting better. The the incision split open. It was fixed. But then after Rascal was getting better he took a turn for the worse. He started to walk like he was drunk, eyes drooping, depression, lethargic, wouldn't go to the bathroom, wouldn't play,  and just turned into a vegetable. Jimmy would pick him up and carry him outside to go to the bathroom.  Jimmy knew something was wrong but no one would listen, except for one vet. After multiple trips to vet, calls, multiple CT scans, spinal taps, and x-rays the worst news came forward...Jimmy was told his boy had encephalitis and meningitis. The outlook wasn't good, but Rascal is a fighter and Jimmy was not giving up.

There was a treatment. Chemotherapy and medications. He was getting out-patient shots costing over 1k every month for over 6 months. That didn't include the blood and urine labs or medicine he was on.  Jimmy was told this treatment could give him 6 months to 2.5-3 years of a happy and quality life. This little dog, Jimmy's best friend went from playing for hours every night to a almost paralyzed vegetable.  But again, neither one would stop fighting or giving up on each other.

Rascal was a fighter and pushed through everything. He still limps and cannot go up or down stairs with the fear of getting hurt. The fear Jimmy had about losing his best friend was tremendous. He would do anything for that dog. Including putting in a new window and a ramp so he could watch his kingdom. Jimmy sold and bought a car so it would be easier for him to get in and out of it for all the trips to and from the vet. BUT it was worth it. Rascal was his old self once again. He smiles, play ball, chases squirrels, protects Jimmy from the cat, and gives kisses constantly.

As a result of the chemo Rascal became immunosuppressed. Any little cold or bug that would take a dog out for less than a day would knock Rascal out for a week. This happened on Christmas. Rascal stopped eating. He was vomiting and had diarrhea. It was killing Jimmy that he was sick and couldn't do anything. After about a week, a trip to the vet, more medications (other than the ones he was on for the encephalitis), IV fliuds, blood work, and x-rays Rascal was told he had the doggy flu. Over a week later of long nights, early mornings, extra care, and bland diet Rascal had finally come around and was back to his normal self. At this point Jimmy has spent over 30k on his best friend.

He seemed to be out of the woods. He continued to  fight everyday. He wanted to play, go on walks. Until January 31st. Almost a year later Rascal stopped eating. Out of the blue this happy, smiling dog was not interested in food. After multiple trips to the vet again, over a week of not eating, vomiting, diarrhea, and the blood diarrhea the vet told Jimmy that his best friend was not ok. He was told that his best friend was in critical condition and he needed to be rushed to the emergency vet.

Jimmy was devastated. He thought he was about to lose his best friend. Rascal was admitted and given fluids. The good news was that he was not in any pain. He was not suffering, he just didn't want to eat. The next day Rascal had an ultrasound, more blood work, IV fluids, and medications. The problem is no one knows what is wrong with Rascal! The vet had more questions than answers. Despite it all Rascal is still fighting. Rascal is still here, he is still himself. He may be a little weaker, a little skinnier, and a little sad since he is not at home but he is still here.

With more questions that answers Jimmy approved another test, over 5K, to see if we can get some answers. That test has shown nothing. More empty test results. More hospital stays. More days both Jimmy and his best friend Rascal are apart. Jimmy travels over 30 minutes every day both ways to see Rascal. To hold him, kiss him, tell him to keep fighting, and show him how much he is loved. Rascal continues to fight and remain comfortable. Jimmy has not given up.

At this point Jimmy has no answers and a dog that will not eat. Its terrifying since you feel so helpless. Your best friend is sick and there is literally nothing you can do. Jimmy does not know how much it will cost to keep fighting for Rascal. He knows he is not done fighting and neither is Rascal. Jimmy will keep going until Rascal tells him he is ready.

Jimmy has done everything for his best friend but Jimmy is running on fumes. But how much will it cost?

If you have ever met Jimmy or Rascal you know their bond. You know know how much they love each other. If Jimmy were to lose Rascal it would be like him losing a child. If you could help Jimmy keep his best friend please help. Any little bit will help.  Help Jimmy bring his best friend home to where he belongs.
