Hi, I’m Bianca - Harvey’s Mom.
I know so many people are struggling right now, which is why it is so difficult to ask for help. I struggle to ask for help in general, as I always “figure it out on my own”. But this time I don’t think I can do it on my own.
On Friday 29th, I picked up an Easter Lilly to gift to a friend. Knowing that lilies are so toxic to cats , I left the plant outside my apartment door until I was ready to leave to visit my friend.
Just before I left, I decide to take the garbage out. Unfortunately the door didn’t latch, and my inquisitive little adventurer followed me out without me realizing. My back was turned probably 30 seconds - but it was enough time for him to go straight to the plant.
I immediately scooped him up and checked his mouth etc. There was nothing, but I noticed a tiny portion of leaf missing.
After speaking to the emergency vet and animal poison control at length, they decided it was critical I get him to the vet.
I was there until 5:30am that morning while the most amazing vet and staff ran all the tests. While he wasn’t initially showing symptoms, his kidney testing came back at elevated levels unfortunately (which indicates he most likely has been affected).
The next 48 hours are critical. Often symptoms don’t appear till 24 hours later, and that’s when the kidneys start to decline and eventually fail.
The estimated cost of his care for the next 48 hours is coming close to $5,000.
I will do anything I can to get him the help he needs. Harvey has been my absolute rock through some of the roughest years I’ve had. Together we’ve gone through moving countries, the pandemic, job loss, financial hardship, visa issues, the loss of my mom, unexpected health issues and depression.
He gave me a reason to get out of bed each day and keep going while I navigated some very dark times. He is my family and all I have left. ❤️
Thanks for reading, and even if you can’t donate today, please continue to share awareness about how deadly toxic plants can be to our furry family members.
Any excess funds raised above what is needed for his medical care will be donated back to an animal charity.
