Join Us in Supporting Bob Porga: A Loving Father, Grandfather, Partner, and Friend Battling ALS.
Today, I am reaching out to share a heartfelt story of strength, courage, and love and to request your kind support for a very dear friend in need. Our friend (and family member) Bob Porga, just before his 54th birthday, was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease; an overwhelming turn in his life to say the least.
Bob Porga is a proud and modest man. He has been a pillar of strength and grace, a devoted father, a cherished grandfather, and a loving partner to his girl, Shari, for the past 35 years and counting. He has always been the hardworking breadwinner of the family, providing for his loved ones with a smile on his face and generosity in his heart. Whether it's family members, friends, or a stranger in need, Bob has never hesitated to lend a helping hand.
Life has presented Bob with an unimaginable challenge. ALS has taken its toll on him in a very short period, causing physical limitations and financial strain that he never anticipated. As he bravely fights this debilitating disease with no known cure, bearing the full weight of something so challenging, along with mounting medical expenses, debts, and living costs has become a heavy burden for him and his family to shoulder.
The devastating diagnosis of ALS has forced Bob into early retirement, a decision he never envisioned nor wanted. The news of his forced retirement deeply saddened both Bob and the entire ShopRite staff from where he was employed as a Department Manager. Witnessing a man who took immense pride in his work being compelled to step away from it due to the fast progression of ALS has been incredibly difficult for everyone who knows and respects him.
Bob has given so much of himself to the communities that he served for over 3 decades, both through his exceptional butchering skills and his kind, helpful nature. Bob's legacy as a dedicated butcher, his passion for managing others, and his tireless spirit in the workplace will forever be revered. However, with his career as a butcher cut short, Bob's financial stability has been greatly compromised, creating a daunting and overwhelming burden for him and his family.
Among Bob's many passions outside of work, two stand out prominently. He is a die-hard JETS fan, remaining loyal to his team through thick and thin, and he has an insatiable love for cheeseburgers that has earned him the title of the "Burger King" among friends and family.
Even now, Bob is a man who does not complain, gripe, or bemoan his fate. Much like the quote from the man the disease is named after, Bob considers himself among "the luckiest men on the face of the Earth" still. His positive attitude, courage, and grace in the face of adversity continues to be an inspiration for everyone who knows and respects him.
Today, we are humbly asking for your support in our effort to help Bob through this unexpected and heart-wrenching curveball life has thrown at him. Your generous donation will make a significant difference in alleviating the financial stress he faces, allowing Bob to focus on what truly matters - spending quality time with his family and cherishing the precious time he has left.
We understand that not everyone may be able to contribute financially, but your thoughts, prayers, and words of encouragement are equally valuable in supporting Bob and his family through this difficult journey.
Thank you for taking the time to read Bob's story! We sincerely hope we can count on your support. Together, we can make a profound difference in Bob's life, showing him that he is not alone nor forgotten in his fight against ALS.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Bob's Family and Friends
