Help Fund My Tuition Fees

Hello, my name is Helin Gormez, and I'm fundraising for my school tuition fees.

I moved to Toronto with my family after enduring a series of traumatic experiences in Montreal. The financial, mental, and physical hardships we faced made it unbearable to stay there. Unfortunately, our move to Toronto did not bring the relief we desperately sought. Despite being Canadian citizens, we were dismissed by local support services, leaving us without assistance.

Our situation grew dire, and we found ourselves sleeping on the streets for several months as I began attending school. The financial aid system at my school offered no compassion or flexibility despite my repeated explanations of our circumstances. Their relentless demands for immediate payment only added to my overwhelming stress.

During this challenging time, I also suffered from sexual assault and the loss of several family members, which compounded my distress. I had to take a break from my studies to cope with the trauma, and upon my return, I was charged additional fees. To date, I have paid between $40,000 and $50,000, nearly double the actual tuition cost.

My health has since deteriorated due to the constant stress and poor living conditions. I almost lost my sister to illness, and we continue to face one hardship after another. I now require surgery for severe abdominal issues, adding to our financial burden.

My single mother is struggling to care for my autistic sister while I try to focus on my education amidst these health challenges. It is crucial for me to complete my schooling and pursue my passion for acting. I’m in my last term, term 6, and about to graduate. Every moment of my studies is precious to me, and I want to finish on a positive note.
