This fundraiser is to help pay the Vet bill for Kai, Gayle Nastasi’s beloved Saluki. Just after his 13th birthday, on August 2nd he had a health event –a seizure and a big one. He recovered however he was doing reverse sneezing and there was concern about his breathing after a few weeks. On August 27th Gayle noticed a mass in the soft palate of his mouth. On August 31st Kai’s regular Vet confirmed the mass was about the size of a ½ dollar yet was unable to determine the nature of the mass. Kai was referred to a Veterinary Specialist to hopefully biopsy and remove the mass on September 1st. That visit was very expensive with x-rays, CT-scans, anesthesia, surgeon, biopsy etc. The mass they could see and feel was the tip of an iceberg. He has a huge tumor filling the area above his soft palate, and infiltrating into the nasal cavity. This was a big unexpected expense and the options were: (1) most likely multiple surgeries with very little hope of more than a few months, (2) go home and do high doses of steroids to shrink the mass some and keep him comfortable with the possibility of a few weeks, (3) or euthanize while under surgery. Gayle chose to take him home and do the steroids. With this prognosis and Gayle’s deep grief over the pending transition of Kai, we are reaching out to all of her friends and asking for donations to offset the burden of Kai’s medical expenses during this very painful and difficult time. Thanks so much…Friends of Gayle and Kai.
