This picture inside the house where Brook lived was taken @ 2pm.
It stayed dark .
When I crawled through the hole( pictured with a board leaning on the house) I realized this was his only link to the outside.
It was in a house closed up,windows boarded up, when a renovation went broke and a family, Brooks family, believed dogs were not to live in the home.
As a puppy,he lived in his owners truck for a year.
No water,heat/ac ,or for that matter, venelation. Most of the flooring/sub flooring was ripped out, a dirt bottom...he was left to live a life utterly alone.
The room was filled with tools, torn out windows, roofing shingles, lumber everywhere, nails, glass.
He had to navigate around these materials.
It had become storage shed for a working man who hoped he could rebuild this house for his family.
This man ended up leaving his family for N. Dakota for roofing work.
This would mean his kids would be responsible to go feed Brook.
No one cared for Brook.
Over the years,,there were bee's nest's,unbelievable mosquieto's,rats, mice & fereal cats.
It was an eye soar for a stuggling neighborhood.
Brook battled fleas, suffered from skin allergy's, severe skin infections plaqued by ear infections, malnutrition, constant thirst ,arthritis, heartworms but mostly loneliness .
I still don't know how he got enough water. These children couldn't have carried enough down for him. He drinks an enourmous amount.
There were no bowls anywere.
It changed who this magnificent dog was going to be.
I have followed Brook over the years & have tried many, many times to get him.
He stayed heavy on my heart.
The SPCA refused to remove him because he did have shelter.
The neighbors were so grateful. They had seen him suffer for so long.
He needs all the friends he can get.
At 8 years old, I am not getting any interest in his adoption.
I have rescued around 300 dogs. Not to keep them but to rehome.
I don't go looking for them. They find me.
The approximate life expectantacy of a Great Dane is 9-10 yrs old.
I am so grateful to the support we have recieved.
I went to Great Dane rescue for support & hoped for adoption but there has been no response.
When posting his story on Great Dane Facebook pages, they were removed. They don't use Facebook for fundraising.
Great Dane rescue had allowed me to post him available for adoption through Great Dane rescue.
He is also on RescueMe.com
Please pass this to your dog lover friends!
Thank you so much from me & Brook!

A gate tied with electrical wire and chained led to a small alley that ran along the side of the house.A 2x4 pressed against a board exposed a hole cut out was just large enough for Brook to squat down & squeeze through.
