The Live Light Live Right program has been servicing the poorest neighborhoods in Brooklyn, New York for over 15 years fight childhood obesity. Our families live in food deserts, extreme poverty and are subjected to violence on a daily basis. There are no playgrounds for them to get exercise. They are at risk for flying bullets as they sit in their living rooms watching television. This is their reality. Food has become a daily comfort.
Two-thirds of the children in the area we serve are overweight or obese.

Our comprehensive method combats obesity with a four-part replicable model:
1. We provide medical evaluation and treatment at our multidisciplinary obesity clinic.
2. We offer family nutritional and behavioral counseling
3. We run a fun and safe supervised exercise program
4. We tailor individualized treatment plans
We measure our results by the health of the 2,500 kids we’ve treated since 2001. More than two-thirds of them have maintained or lowered their body mass index scores, their blood pressure, their cholesterol and their insulin levels. A majority of them have also shown improvement in the quality of life indicators.
