This is for my Mother, Brenda Tarquinio. I have to start off by saying she is my bestfriend and I never thought a day like this would come.
Let’s start from the beginning, For the last few months my mother has been fighting a sinus infection. This month she was finally starting to feel better and beat the sinus infection. We all thought she was in the clear and no surgery, yay!! We thought!
Even though her sinuses were getting better, Her hearing was not coming back in her right ear. Hearing tests showed she had perfect hearing. Something was still not right. She was told it may be psychological. No way! My mom is not crazy. She is not old either. Thank god she listened to her body and was persistent with the doctor. After an MRI, she found out what was really going on.
The MRI showed she as an Acoustic Neuroma- a benign tumor between her ear and her brain. Affects hearing and balance. Of course, now we know why she falls up the stairs. Lol
She was given a few options of treatment. Due to the size of the tumor surgery is the only option. The surgery that needs to be performed is rare, not many hospitals are experts in the procedure. Her surgery will be done across the country from her, my step dad and myself. Not only will she have medical bills after her surgery and hospital stay, but paying for hotel accommodations, rental car and food while being in California is going to cost quite a bit. Asking for help is something I am terrible at, but I know that this is not just for me. I don’t know how else to help my mother. She has always been there for me and helped even when I didn’t ask for it. Now it’s my turn to do what I can, without her asking for it. I wish I could do more, but need your help please. Thank you!
