My dad has been a huge influence on my life and many of my friends lives. If he could give you the shirt off his back knowing you needed it then he would. I know and some of you will know well that he does not take a helping hand very well if he feels like he can do it himself. Well I'm reaching out to everyone for him. We just found out that he has stage 4 lung cancer with hopes of some really amazing g potential treatment plans. This has been a big shock in our household because now both of my parents are in need of care.
In order to get the whole picture, let me back this story up to about 5 years ago. My mom became very ill with diabetes and ultimately renal failure. In order for her body to function correctly she needs to have dialysis 3 times a week and is now in need of 24 hour care which my father provided for her (many of you know her whole story but if you don't then feel free to ask). With the recent news of my father's cancer, life has drastically changed for our house. My sister's and I have been taking a bigger role in caring for mom and now looking at the care of him on top of this. There are a lot of immediate needs that only we can deal with but there will be a few down the line that we will need to get help with.
This fund will be one of the first steps in this whole process. It will help with some health insurance bills, medications and other medical bills that he may accrue because of a mishap with switching his health care a few years ago. It will also help with the building of a new safer ramp for getting my mom in and out of the house and some other needed home improvements to better and make their lives at home a little easier and safer.
