As you may or may not know, this is Daniel (and his dog, Missy).

Daniel has been fighting to get justice in the US legal system since January of 2019.

To make a long story short, he and his fiancée at the time were about to move to California to be married and so he could go to seminary school. The day before the move, she suddenly disappeared--but not before stealing all of his money and going to the police to accuse him of many, many things. He has been entangled in the justice system ever since.

Amazingly, in spite of all the evidence of his innocence and even the DA's own admission that his ex had lied about everything she claimed (resulting in them dropping her from the case), the county has continued to go after Daniel and insisted on dragging out the judicial process.

This has all come at a cost.

To date, Daniel has lost roughly $53,000 to defense lawyers and assorted legal fees. This is not including the money his ex-fiancée stole or lost wages.

Daniel has recently, finally, found a good lawyer who has taken over the case against him and is willing to make a case for him on contingency. This means nothing further out of pocket for Daniel, win or lose. Should the case go in Daniel's favor, he will be able to repay the loans he had to take out that have put him deep in debt these last two years. This lawyer has already gotten the county to admit  that they made mistakes in which they have serious civil liabilities as far as violating Daniel's rights (ignoring a denied search warrant, lying under oath, lying on the police reports, etc).

However, Daniel is running out of time to act on these admissions.

The statute of limitations for him to file a complaint against the county ends on January 5th, 2021. Because of this short timeline, he is going to have to outsource the filing to another law firm. It will cost $5,500 to pay this other firm to get it submitted before the deadline—and Daniel is completely tapped out on funds.

He is currently working odd jobs, running a moving business, and trying to take out another loan to get this money before the deadline. He has already had to take out loans from friends and family to fund most of the expenses of the last two years and some of those loans are coming due soon.

All proceeds from this GoFundMe will go directly toward paying for this filing and repaying any loans taken out to meet the January 5th deadline.

Daniel is a good, hardworking guy who resisted having a GoFundMe all this time because he didn't like the idea of asking others for monetary help. He is allowing me to make this for him after much persuasion...and also because he really does not understand how technology works. :)
