**Update**
It’s been a long, emotional week with one step forward and two steps back with Mabel’s progress. She was showing signs of improvement and then another complication of diarrhoea has meant she’s had to stay on IV fluids. She has been passing very bloody stools almost hourly for 24hrs and is losing muscle mass. An update from the vet this morning sounds promising that she is now recovering from this but still remains an inpatient. Neurologically the vet feels she is vastly improved therefore a degenerative disease is looking less likely. Her vet bills yesterday were £6500.
Mabel took suddenly unwell on Wednesday morning with severe symptoms of loss of coordination and balance along with excessive salivating. She was taken to the vet who supported her over night with fluids and various tests. These all came back inconclusive and she was referred on to the Vet Specialist Scotland team who involved neurology. She has undergone X-rays, an MRI and a CSF sample to get to the bottom of her symptoms and hopefully find a cure. All of which are inconclusive. The team think she has either ingested a toxin which has caused these neurological symptoms or she has a degenerative disease which will continue to deteriorate as time passes. She now needs time and support from the VSS team while she hopefully recovers. The cost for this has now reached well over £5k.
